Penicuik churches are joining forces to take a stand against debt and poverty in the wider community by working with a credit union.
Launched last week, specially trained volunteers from Penicuik North Kirk, St Mungo’s and St James the Less will be working with Edinburgh-based financial co-operative Capital Credit Union.
The new partnership involving Penicuik Churches Working Together, will bring fair and affordable savings, mortgages and loans to church members and others in the community.
Volunteers will be on hand at least twice a week to give information on the products provided by the credit union, and help people access them from the comfort of a specially created “office” beside the church cafe.
