Penicuik club campaign gains backing

The campaign to save Penicuik tennis courts from possible development for housing has received the backing of the town’s community council.

Attending the January meeting, Penicuik Tennis Club chairman Will McCulloch and secretary Michael Wylie heard that no decision had been made by Midlothian Council regarding the potential use of the Kirkhill site.

Councillor Derek Rosie (SNP) explained that council officials were still exploring options and no plans had been announced for the tennis court site.

Established in 2012, the club leases the land from the local authority. The club now boasts more than 200 members, of all ages and abilities.

Councillor Rosie added: “We can’t really give the answers you actually want at this stage. That is why nobody is going to give cast iron answers.”
