A spring clean of his bedroom proved to be a winner for Penicuik teenager Ryan Kitching.
But the 19-year-old nearly threw away a fortune – deciding at the last minute not to bin a dozen Lottery tickets that were lying around.
One lucky ticket contained five numbers and the bonus ball to win the Tesco employee a cool £52,981.
The former Penicuik High School pupil explained: “I had been at the gym in the morning and my mum had been on at me all week to clean my room. I thought I would do it when I got back from the gym.
“I found 10 or 12 Lottery tickets – all different ones. Some were for the Euromillions as well as Wednesday and Saturday draws.”
