Thirty years of service to the community is being brought into focus for a Penicuik television repair man.

Brian Christie, a lieutenant with the 48th Edinburgh Boys’ Brigade, is one of the chosen few to carry to Olympic torch.

The 63-year-old’s moment of glory will take place in Earlston on Thursday, June 14.

Brian told the Advertiser: “I am very excited, very excited indeed. First of all I thought my daughter had a cheek nominating me, but I am very thrilled to have chosen.”

The television engineer was selected to carry the Olympic torch through the Bank of Scotland’s campaign.

For more than 30 years, Brian has been a leader with the local Boys’ Brigade company and is a founder member and coach with Beeslack Thistle, which caters for more than 100 boys in various age groups.
