PENICUIK: St Mungo's Church. Rev Geoff Berry who is leaving parish ministry to become an army chaplain.

A PENICUIK minister will be swapping his cassock for khakis.

Rev Geoff Berry preached for the last time at St Mungo’s Church on Sunday, ahead of joining the regulary army as a chaplain.

Mr Berry (49) will attend a service of induction as an army padre tomorrow (Thursday).

“I believe my gifts and skills are very much in working with the troops,” he said. “I have been doing that for the last two years as a civilian minister, working part-time with the Ministry of Defence.”

Through his ministery, he has worked closely with the Royal Highland Fusiliers, The 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, based at Glencorse Barracks, particularly when the troops were deployed to Afghanistan.
