A recent charity family fun day at the Craigiebield House Hotel, Penicuik, has raised £334 for veterans’ charity Poppyscotland.

The fun day included craft stalls, children’s activities, entertainment from singer Sophie Burt, and a military vehicle and motorbike display by support group War Torn Troops Remembered. Penicuik’s Hunter and Lass Colin Hawkins and Gillian Garriock were also in attendance.

The event was organised by Poppyscotland supporter Mark Wells. He said: “My dad was in the Army and he passed away when I was just five years old so Poppyscotland has been a big part of my family.

“I wanted to give something back and I am already making plans so that next year’s fun day will be bigger and even better.”

Poppyscotland’s regional fundraiser Sine Ward added: “We are very grateful to Mark for organising such a brilliant event in aid of Poppyscotland. Many thanks also to the Craigiebield House Hotel for their support.

“Poppyscotland needs to raise funds all year round to continue supporting the Armed Forces community and we rely on people like Mark to hold fundraising events like this.”

Next year the fun day will take place at the Craigiebield House Hotel on September 11 from noon to 4pm at the Craigiebield House Hotel.
