Petitions aim to halt council service cuts

MIDLOTHIAN residents opposed to the closure of two local leisure facilities have taken their protest to the council chamber.

Campaigns to prevent the demolition of Bonnyrigg Leisure Centre and the closure of Newbattle Swimming Pool were discussed by Midlothian Council’s Petitions Committee on Tuesday.

Further petitions urge councillors to protect the wages of the county’s sports coaches and instructors and halt the building of a waste recycling centre beside Strathesk Primary School in Penicuik.
