One of the hundreds of women who have got their life back on track thanks to Pink Ladies First has revealed how the group helped her get off drugs.
The woman, who didn’t want to be named, told The Advertiser that Pink Ladies First has turned her life around.
She said: “It’s changed my life so much. When I started at Pink Ladies five years ago I was a total wreck. I had been stuck in the house for 14 years with post-natal depression and psychosis.
“I finally plucked up the courage to go along to the group.
“It’s just fantastic. Maria and Sheila that run it are great, as they have had lived experience of depression and anxiety, so that helped a lot.
“I just find it a safe place to be and it’s like a big happy family. I now do peer support and meet girls coming along to start the group, and I reassure them that it’s the best thing they can do.
“The difference that it has made to girls is unbelievable.
“When I started I had my head down, looking at the floor. Now I get up at the meetings and tell my story to the group.
“I had been suicidal for many years. But because I have got Pink Ladies to go to it’s a safe zone for me. It’s totally saved my life.
“I have made so many new friends at the group.
“With the depression and psychosis, the only way I could deal with it in the past was to take speed. Now I haven’t taken speed for four years. Thanks to the group I don’t need drugs to keep me going.
“Pink Ladies First is my drug now.”
