A restaurant’s plans to build a 13 space car park on derelict land next to it have been kicked out by Midlothian Council.
The plans, submitted in March this year by Mr Pia of Gigi’s restaurant on Lothian Street,Bonnyrigg, were dismissed by the planning committee in April and again earlier this month by the review body.
Green councillor Ian Baxter said: “Although there was significant support, there was strong opposition from people who lived in the area.
“It was actually opposed unanimously.
“My main reason for opposing it was the loss of amenity space. And that it might set a precedent that any private company might seek to use council land.
“There are good public transport links there, regular buses pass. So a car park wasn’t needed.”
