A Gorebridge couple have celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary and looked back on 70 years together.

On June 4, 1943 James (91) and Jean Richardson (90) were married at St Paul’s Church, Gorebridge.

James said: “It was bucketing rain. Very heavy rain.

“My sister hid my civilian clothes so I had to get married and photographed in my army outfit!

“It was a good night, with what we could get provided, it was during the war you see.

“After the speeches and everything all the men went to the chippy for fish suppers, you couldn’t imagine that these days at a wedding!”
