Singsongs at a Dalkeith pub have been put on hold pending a noise impact assessment.
Ship Inn owner Margaret Logan’s bid for a variation of premises licence, to run karaoke events on Sunday evenings, was continued at a meeting of Midlothian Licensing Board last week.
Members heard that the singalongs had resulted in complaints being made to police. Chief Inspector Jim Royan said: “We were called to attend the premises on March 10, 17 and 24. All three incidents related to noise and staff were asked to turn the music down on each occasion.”
A suggestion by councillor Joe Wallace (SNP) that singing be restricted to “no later than 10pm” was successfully opposed by councillor Alex Bennett (Lab) who described the Ship Inn as “historically a singsong pub”.
