Residents are urging police to take action after a council survey confirmed their concerns about the amount of speeding vehicles on a busy road.
Suttieslea Road, which joins Mayfield and Newtongrange, has long been a concern to a neighbourhood group in Mayfield which wants more done about speeding there, particularly the 30mph zone between Newbattle Medical Practice and Mayfield Industrial Estate.
Midlothian Council carried out a survey in August which revealed around 100 cars a day on average are speeding along that stretch of road despite speed signs being in place.
David Zavaroni revealed that he and fellow members of the Suttieslea Neighbourhood Watch Scheme are delighted with the survey and they now want the police to do more about the problem.
A Police Scotland spokesman said of the survey: “This will now be examined in detail and a plan developed to tackle the problem, which will involve a range of actions including radar speed checks in the area.”
