Three Buddhist monks killed in a car crash near Pathhead on Christmas Eve have been named.

The men, originally from Thailand, were travelling north along the A68 near the Fala Tunnel at around 7.30am when their Nissan Note overturned and collided with a Skoda Octavia car, which was travelling south.

All three men were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 47-year-old man and the 61-year-old female driver of the vehicle were taken to hospital for treatment to various injuries.

The driver had managed to free herself from the car while the passenger had to be rescued from the wreckage.
