Police probe Dalkeith shop assault

A newsagent has described how his shop assistant son was badly beaten up during an assault at a High Street store in Dalkeith.

Mohammed Shafiq (55) said that Shaz (34) had been taken to hospital following an altercation with three youths in the News Centre Convenience Store at 2.30pm on Friday, September 12.

Mr Shafiq told the Advertiser: “Shaz was on his own when two teenagers came into the shop.

“There was some sort of disturbance and they were asked to leave. Another one who had been waiting outside came in.

“I’m not sure exactly what happened next but Shaz has been left with a broken nose and broken ribs, ten stitches on his head and a nasty bite on the hand. He was in hospital for two days.”
