A new initiative has been launched by police in Midlothian to combat the anti social and illegal use of off-road motorcycles and quad bikes in public places.

The Midlothian Community Policing Team and Community Beat Officers are leading the campaign, which takes place throughout the month of June.

Inspector Michelle Ritchie said: “We’ve analysed previous incidents and consulted with residents to find out the location of hotspots and times of peak activity.

“Our emphasis is on pro-active enforcement and disruption. We’ll be deploying police quad bike patrols, police off-road motorcyclists, plain-clothes and overt high visibility patrols to target offenders.”

Anyone who wishes to report such a matter should contact Police Scotland on 101.

Alternatively, anonymous reports can be made through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
