A new Police Scotland initiative aimed at tackling and raising awareness of hate crime in Midlothian has been launched.
A pack including a handbook on how to deal with hate crime has been sent to shops and businesses throughout the area, while posters encouraging people to tell police about incidents of hate crime is on display at local bus stops and on buses.
In addition, a DVD and classroom package compatible with Curriculum for Excellence has been created for distribution in local primary schools to help to raise awareness of the issue among schoolchildren.
The ultimate aim of the initiative is to encourage reporting and reduce incidents of hate crime, particularly within shops and businesses, where the majority of such incidents occur at the point of sale.
