MIDLOTHIAN police officers are inviting residents to meet them on the beat.

Lothian and Borders Police has started Operation Ether, a community policing initiative that will see a mobile police station taken around the districts.

The unit will set up at a pre-advertised time, date and location and give local people the chance to chat with the local officer about concerns or seek crime prevention advice.

A spokesman said: “Operation Ether is another way of reaching out and engaging with our communities as part of our pledge to the force’s Community Commitment.”

PC Mark Singleton made visits to Birkenside, Carrington, Temple and North Middleton earlier this month.

PC Lynne Cochrane will be at the mobile station tomorrow (Friday) at Main Street, Pathhead (10-11am), Main Street, Fala (11.30am-12.30pm) and Hadfast Road, Cousland (1-1.30pm). PC Blair Watson takes over on Saturday, visiting Mayfield Place, Mayfield (10am-12noon) and Main Street, Newtongrange (12noon-2pm).
