Politician caught short in Midlothian Council car park

A councillor was caught urinating outside the headquarters of Midlothian Council just minutes after voting to close public toilets in the county.

Peter de Vink (Ind) was spotted in the car park of Midlothian House in Dalkeith on the evening of Tuesday, December 18.

The council has confirmed that allegations were made by two members of staff, and that the matter would be dealt with internally.

Councillor de Vink had just attended a five-hour meeting of the full council, at which the SNP-led administration – of which he is a member – announced plans to conduct a review of all public toilets in Midlothian.

One of many cost-cutting proposals, the review would save £85,000 in 2013/14 and is part of council plans to bridge a £5.4 million budget shortfall.
