A young Midlothian couple are among the first in Scotland to benefit from a scheme aimed at helping first-time buyers on to the property ladder.
Rhys and Tanya Morris will take their first step on to the property ladder at Taylor Wimpey’s Hopefield Grange development in Bonnyrigg thanks to the new shared equity scheme announced by the Scottish Government.
Rhys (22), a customer support assistant at Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary Hospital, and Tanya (23), a deputy retail manager, have used Help to Buy (Scotland) to reserve a two-bedroom property.
Rhys said: “My wife and I have been struggling for such a long time to be in a position to buy our own home. We’ve been looking for about three years but just couldn’t afford to raise the level of deposit that was needed to get a mortgage, and we’ve found that being so young has been a disadvantage.”
