The 2012 Poltonhall Children’s Gala Day has been described by organisers as the biggest and best ever.
Gala Committee chairman Sharon Crombie (33) told the Advertiser that the annual event, which marks the highlight of the Poltonhall calendar, has grown to the extent that it now feels like a “real” gala.
She said: “Sunday’s event was hugely successful easily the biggest so far. The weather stayed mainly dry and the new park, which is enclosed and very safe, was ideal.
“Our committee has been in place for five years now, and after Sunday we feel that we are now where we have always wanted to be. For the first time our gala day feels like a real one.”
Funding the event costs around £10,000, and with just eight members on the gala committee it takes all-year planning to ensure that the event is a success.
Sharon, of Dalhousie Place, added: “There were loads of nice comments on our Facebook page on Sunday night, which was really nice.
“One woman said that the Poltonhall was the best gala she had ever attended. Also, the police told us afterwards that it had been a pleasure to attend the event, and that there had not been a single bit of trouble. That is something that both the committee and the entire community can be really proud of.”
The gala committee thanked local businesses and volunteers for their support.
