Popular bus route set to be shared

Lothian Buses will continue to serve half the route.

The increasingly popular number 39 bus route is to be shared by two bus operators after the existing contract ends on September 30.

The full service is currently operated by Lothian Buses, from Gorebridge, Newtongrange, Bonnyrigg, Midlothian Community Hospital to Tesco and on to Woodburn. The section between Gorebridge and Tesco is financially supported by Midlothian Council.

A council spokesman said: “We issued a new tender which received bids from Lothian Buses and Borders Buses. Following subsequent discussions, Lothian Buses will continue to operate a service between Woodburn and Tesco on a commercial basis, while Borders Buses will take the supported section for five years from mid October.”
