THOUSANDS of smiling faces lined the streets of Penicuik to show support to 2 SCOTS troops who recently returned from Afghanistan.

School children waved Saltires and Union Flags and young and old residents alike cheered as the 200 troops marched through the town last Wednesday and The Regimental Colonel, His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, took the salute at Penicuik Town Hall.

The battalion returned last month from a six month tour in Afghanistan where they carried out patrols, operations and fought insurgents in the Lashkar Gah region of Helmand province.

Children from local primary schools were delighted when Prince Andrew took an unexpected walk through the crowd to chat with them.

There were plenty of residents with no military connection who turned out in the sunshine to show support to the local troops, as well as families glad to have their loved ones home.
