Probe after Loanhead firm’s school bus loses wheel

A LOANHEAD coach firm has lost two school contracts after one of its buses shed a wheel.

The incident involving a McKendry Coaches’ vehicle happened near Drochil Castle near Peebles last Wednesday afternoon.

The bus was carrying pupils from Peebles High School to West Linton when a loud grinding noise was heard and the wheel came loose. No children were hurt .

Anne McKendry, one of the company’s transport managers, confirmed that the incident had been reported to the Vehicle and Operator Service Agency: “The driver never thought the wheel was loose. He thought it was a blow-out.

“We’re waiting for the report by VOSA, and I don’t want to make any further comment.”
