Pupils dish the dirt!

PUPILS in Mayfield are fighting back against dog fouling on their schools’ grounds.

The campus, which contains Mayfield Primary and St Luke’s RC Primary and Mayfield Library, is visited by many dog-walkers, despite not being open to the public.

Pupils at both schools recently designed posters for a competition to warn people about walking their dogs on school grounds. They will now be put up in and around the schools.

PC Lindsey Hughson has been heavily involved with the competition, and chose the winners with Isobel Allen from Mayfield Library last week.

PC Hughson revealed that the pupils enjoyed making their posters.

She said: “Yes, they are really enthusiastic. The whole of the two schools took part.

“They were really up for it, most of them had a story to tell about dog fouling here.

“A lot of the posters have carried the focus on the risk of infection and diseases that the problem can cause.

“The standard of poster has been absolutely fantastic. I just hope the community takes heed of what the pupils have learnt and stop their dogs from fouling in the local area.”
