Dalkeith’s Jarnac court could be used to house combined police and justice services under one roof in a bid to regenerate the town centre.
The 1960s-built site is currently made up of flats and shops.
But it is being considered for a shared complex similar to the West Lothian Civic Centre in Livingston, which houses partner agencies including West Lothian Council, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
Midlothian council Leader Owen Thompson (SNP) is keen to stress that talks are still at a “very early stage”.
