Repair work at Newbattle Abbey College has taken a significant step forward as contractors raised a canopy to protect the roof of the main house from the elements.
Over the past two months, a complex scaffolding infrastructure has been erected to support the canopy that will enable repairs to be carried out. Overall repair work at the college is said to be “progressing well” with work on the boundary wall nearing completion and repairs to the riverside wall continuing. The project is on schedule for completion by the end of April.
Based within a 16th century building, the college has been educating adults with no or few qualifications for almost 75 years.
Many sections of the building are in need of repair and restoration.
