Our Lady’s Bird.

Penicuik resident Lucille Bishop took this photos of a ladybird while she was in her garden.

Ladybirds derive their name from Our Lady’s Bird. Mary (Our Lady) was often depicted wearing a red cloak in early paintings, and the seven spots were said to symbolise her seven joys and seven sorrows.
