1963

MAYFIELD: Britian’s first co-denominational school - St. Luke’s, Mayfield, received its first pupils on Monday. The building will cater for 500 children.

1988

DALKEITH: Dalkeith Badminton Club faces closure unless it can find a suitable venue. It has rented the gym hall at Newbattle High School for the past eight years, but a new youth group has been given priority on the lease.

1998

ROSLIN: Scientists from Roslin Institute have had up to 40 enquiries worldwide from individuals and families wishing to have their pet cat or dog cloned.
