1964

LOANHEAD: Roman Catholic children moved into their new primary school at Loanhead on Monday, the second new school to be occupied in Midlothian within a week. The other, also for Roman Catholic primary schoolchildren is at Gorebridge. Since 1947, the Education Committee of Midlothian county Council have been responsible for building 17 primary and three secondary schools.

1989

NEWTONGRANGE: Members and friends of Newtongrange Gala Committee will prove “the sky’s the limit” this weekend when they head for the Borders for their most daring ever fund-raising event. Eight committee members will be joined by eight fearless friends when they leap from a plane.

1999

GOREBRIDGE: Gorebridge Flower Show could be entering its final few years of existence as organisers face a £900 bill from Midlothian Council. The flower show committee now have received a free let of the local leisure centre.
