A new monthly showcase providing young Midlothian singers a stage to shine on is to be launched in August.
Rising Stars will take place in the Dean Tavern, Newtongrange, one Sunday a month from 1pm to 4pm starting on August 6, open to ages 10-16.
Each month six acts will perform a 20-minute slot to showcase their musical talents.
The idea has come from local signing classes provider Little Voices Big Stars (LVBS), based on a similar event at the Clutha Inn in Glasgow.
Vicki Beveridge of LVBS said: “We see how much young talent there is, obviously we teach kids and see it but there is much more out there. We came up with the idea to give them their own little gig. We will provide them with PA and backing tracks if needed.
“It’s open to everybody, to give them a chance to show off their talent and get friends and family to come along, in an environment they can get up and perform. Nobody is judging anybody, it will just be quite fun and relaxed.
“It’s trying to spread the word now, along the lines that we have had a lot of talent in Little Voices Big Stars but there is so much out there.”
Depending on demand, names will be drawn out of a hat for the showcase, which Vicki hopes will be popular.
She said: “I think sometimes they sing in the bedroom or in front of their mums and dads. The showcase would give them belief, which is important and what this is all about – there is so much young talent not getting heard.
“We just hope more kids can come out of their bedrooms and be confident enough to know there is folk out there willing to help them and not rip them off.”
