Dalkeith Rotarians filled more than 20 bags of litter lifted from semi-urban footpaths around Thornybank recently.

Retired GP Ralph Warwick, who led the project in conjunction with the Countryside Ranger Service, said: “It’s our way of giving something back to the public who so generously support our fundraising efforts throughout the year.”

Mother of three, Lisa McWhinnie (41), whose Thornyhall home is close to the popular route, declared residents to be delighted with the tidy-up, and Vicky Young (21) from Woodburn, added: “I walk that path every day, and it’s now so much more pleasant.”
