Residents in a Loanhead street have been told they are responsible for removing a wind-blown tree lying across two gardens.

The 40ft Leylandii came crashing down one night during the January gales and now makes access to the drying greens of two gardens in Park View impossible.

The residents, led by Loanhead community councillor Chick Baxter (72), have been trying to put pressure on Midlothian Council and Loanhead Miners’ Welfare Boys’ Club to attend to the tree and the general state of the land surrounding the Bayne Memorial Hall.

The boys’ club leases from the local authority the former Scout hall and land, which adjoins the back gardens in Park View.

Mrs Eileen Baxter (67) said: “I would like a view. This is Park View. What do I look at? Park Tree!”
