A Midlothian Council-run care home for the elderly has been running over budget to the tune of more than £10,000 per week, it has been revealed.
The “unacceptable” extent of the overspend at Newbyres Village in Gorebridge was laid bare at a recent meeting of Midlothian Council.
Angry councillors demanded answers after it was reported that the hiring of agency workers, due to staff sickness absence, had led to a projected overspend of £555,000 by the end of the current financial year.
