Pupils from Sacred Heart Primary, Penicuik, enjoyed a field trip with a difference recently.

As part of National Science and Engineering Week, the children visited Penicuik House, where they discussed Scottish scientist James Clerk Maxwell with Lady Clerk. Clerk Maxwell’s father John was one of the Clerks of Penicuik.

The children then took to the grounds of the estate, where they laid a tartan ribbon trail.

Clerk Maxwell’s first colour photo was of a tartan ribbon.
