Pair hunted after armed bank raid

Police are hunting two men after a bank was robbed at gunpoint on Thursday morning.

Lloyds Bank in Main Street, Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire, was held up at about 10.35am and the thieves made off with a four-figure sum.

Strathclyde Police said no shots were fired and no-one was injured in the incident, but staff have been left feeling "very distressed" after being threatened "with what appeared to be a firearm".

Both suspects are white, with one standing about 5ft 7ins and the other over 6ft. Both men were wearing blue jeans and black jackets with hoods, which were tied tightly, covering their faces.

The men left the bank and ran towards Clova Street in the area and officers are collecting CCTV footage and carrying out door-to-door inquiries.

Detective Constable Gary Gallacher said: "This is a busy area with lots of shops and flats around, and at this time of the day there would have been lots of people milling around.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch with us. It may be that you saw the suspects run off or you may have noticed them prior to the robbery and thought they looked a little suspicious.

"I would urge anyone with any information to please contact us as a matter of urgency."
