A dancer has landed her “dream” theatre school place in London at the second attempt and is now appealing for a sponsor.

Amy Kerr (18), from Newtongrange, will soon begin a three year BA honours Dance and Musical Theatre course at Bird College, a year after she failed her first audition.

As well as West End stars, former ‘Bird’ pupils include Spice Girl Mel C and Eastenders star John Partridge.

Although Amy’s £9,000 fees are covered by her student loan she still needs help meeting the enormous costs of living in London.

She said: “It’s quite an expensive place so it’s going to be difficult. So even if I can raise £1,000 I would be happy.

“I am trying to save money with a summer job but I am going to struggle. So I am looking to find a sponsor to help.

“I have done so much hard work over the last year and I have never given up.

“It is a very intensive course, 35 hours of dance a week. With an 8am start and sometimes you finish at 10pm, depending on your classes.

“It’s difficult but it will be worth it.”
