Security probe in Dalkeith

A construction site security guard was found working illegally without an SIA licence during an operation in Dalkeith last week.

When questioned by Security Industry Authority investigators, the man gave false details. Because of concerns that he may not have the right to work in the UK, the investigators requested assistance from the police, who arrested the guard. Further enquiries will also be undertaken by the SIA.

The operation was carried out in the county to test compliance with SIA licensing. Seventeen premises were visited - some were using in-house operatives or remote monitoring. A total of seven security operatives were checked and apart from the one unlicensed guard, the remainders all displayed a valid SIA licence.

Head of investigation Sharon Roberts said: “We will be continuing our investigations into this individual so that we can take the appropriate action.”
