Bonnyrigg sisters seven-year-old Hannah and 10-year-old Charlotte Shiell have had 30cm of their hair cut for donation to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children with cancer.

Mum and dad Robert and Claire explained that Hannah came up with the idea during the summer holidays and Charlotte agreed it would be a great thing for them to do together!

The girls had a think and decided they would also like to raise some money at the same time so decided on Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).

The girls worked hard asking family, friends and work colleagues of mum and dad for sponsorship and raised a whopping £1300.

In addition, the girls held a bake sale with donations from Clarnico Cakes in Bonnyrigg which made £100 as well as raising another £100 in sponsorship, bringing the total to an amazing £1500.

The girls’ parents said: “We are immensely proud of the girls for this. They were so brave. Their hair has always been long and this was a big step for them. Charlotte and Hannah love the fact they have done something to help others even though they have never been affected with illness themselves.”
