A Lasswade teenager has become the number one female freestyle snowboarder in the UK.
Vaila Chapman (15), of Farm Avenue, has risen to the top of the sport in less than five years – despite suffering a horrific injury in 2009.
She explained: “I took a fall at the bottom of the slope at Hillend and ripped my knee cap open.
“The ligaments were torn and I was out for six weeks, which was frustrating, but I couldn’t wait to get back to snowboarding.”
She took her first snowboarding lesson while at Lasswade Primary School aged just eight.
