Eskbank and Newbattle Community Council will round off another busy year by holding its annual general meeting tonight (Thursday).
The meeting will be held at the Edinburgh College (Midlothian Campus) and start at 6.30pm. The main business will be a review of the past year’s highlights, a summary of the financial position and the election of new community council members.
There are three vacancies to fill on the 15-member council, including for a secretary, so if you have an inclination to help your local community in any way and have a little time to spare, please consider joining this very active group.
Positions are open to any resident of the ward, aged 16 years or older, and we would particularly welcome younger members to represent the views of our younger residents and students.
Chairman Bill Kerr Smith said: “Being part of a community council doesn’t always have to mean attending meetings at particular times as there are many ways to participate in community ventures. Your preference might be for tackling outdoor projects to improve our local environment, or managing our social media platform, and we will work hard to find ways to ensure that anyone who wants to participate in helping us to build a better community can find a means to do it, with us.”
Community Council meetings are always open to members of the public, so don’t hold back if you are just interested to find out what goes on. Take the plunge and come along or write to contact the community council at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like more information.
