The Million Pound Drop

Channel 4, Friday, 8pm

Last year, headteacher Mr Mitchell and his motley crew of teachers and students at Thornhill Community Academy in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, stole the hearts of the nation in the superb Educating Yorkshire.

So it’s little surprise that some of the programme’s now-famous teachers have been invited to take on ‘The Drop’, spurred on by the lovely Davina McCall.

They have to keep hold of the eponymous fortune by correctly answering eight questions – and given that Jonny, Matthew Burton, Lynn Marsden and Michael Steer are all teachers in different fields, they should, in theory, find this to be a doddle.

However, those who have already played the big-money game show will probably vouch for the fact that under the harsh glare of the studio’s spotlights, and with the clock counting down, it’s a different story. The teachers will be trying to win big for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Cystic Fibrosis Yorkshire, Petal Children Cancer Research, and Disadvantaged Children in Dewsbury.
