Dalkeith’s teenage driving sensation Aiden Moffat is ready for the new British Touring Car Championship which starts this weekend.
The action kicks off with the first round at Brands Hatch, and Moffat (19), is confident of a successful start to his third season in the championship.
He said: “I’m just hoping to build on my maiden podium last year (at Knockhill) and try to get another podium or two this year to build on last season.
“There is a long way to go yet. I’m the youngest in the championship, there are guys in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, a big mix.
“There are a lot of big names but it never really phases me. We just do our own thing. It doesn’t really matter to us.
“I think the car feels good. We have good engineers on board so I’m pleased with everything.
“It should be a good year for us.”
Ahead of the new season Aiden faced the press last week at the British Touring Car Championships Media Day held at Donnington Park and revealed his car in its final livery. Over the winter period, the Mercedes A Class has had the obligatory updates from RML applied and the car has now been repainted in a stunning black and chrome blue livery.
During the four hour test around the famous 1.97 mile Donington National Circuit in the afternoon, Aiden completed 43 laps and achieved a best time of one minute ten seconds. This was good enough for the 13th fastest time of the day. During the test, Aiden managed to gather the important data that will set the bench mark for the rest of the season. Despite some issues with the car, the Midlothian teenager feels it will be ready for the weekend.
He said: “It was a limited run we did on the day.
“We had quite a few issues, the car wasn’t right, so it wasn’t a great day for us in terms of running. But I’m confident it will be sorted for the championships.”
