If you’ve ever seen the sitcom Miranda, which features a live, laughing audience, and a Hi-De-Hi-style ‘You have been watching’ credit sequence where the cast wave at the camera, it probably won’t come as a big surprise to learn that its star and creator is a big fan of the golden age of TV light entertainment.
However, it seems there’s one particular performer who inspired her more than any other, and that’s Eric Morecambe.
Now, she’s repaying the debt with this documentary, the first in a new series in which celebs explore the lives of people who inspired them.
She’ll be retracing Eric’s steps, visiting some of the places where he performed with his comedy partner Ernie Wise - that should take her all across the country.
Look Out For: Her meeting with one of the unsung heroes of British comedy, writer Eddie Braben, who penned some of the duo’s most famous routines.
Miranda says: “I just remember watching Eric Morecambe when I was six or seven, and him doing the glasses thing. I don’t know why, but I went, ‘That’s what I want to do.’”
