Thieves target two Midlothian businesses

Police are appealing for information after a housebreaking and an attempted housebreaking in Howgate and Penicuik in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, March 29).

The first incident happened around 3.30am when someone attempted to break into the Howgate Restaurant on the A6094 in Howgate.

The second incident happened around 4.50am, when Encee hair studio, Edinburgh Road, Penicuik, was broken into and items were stolen.

Sergeant Michele Lindsay, of Penicuik Police Station, said: “Given the nature of the offences and the proximity of where they occurred we’re keeping an open mind to the possibility that they’re linked.

“As such I would be very keen to hear from anyone who noticed any suspicious behaviour near the Howgate Restaurant or Edinburgh Road overnight between Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 March.

“Similarly anyone who has information relevant to our enquiries or who has been offered goods that they believe to be stolen, contact police as soon as possible.”
