Two stolen Harrier hawks have been returned to their Loanhead owner after an anonymous tip-off.

Unemployed gamekeeper Barry Shaw received an anonymous message, via the internet, that the valuable birds of prey would be found in a cat box behind the old Chinese restaurant at Burdiehouse.

Three-year-old Jess had been injured – with her wing feathers singed by a lighter and her tail feathers cut – while four-year-old Luckie was missing a tail feather. Jess had also lost weight during her ordeal.

“I got a call on Saturday afternoon and they said they had my birds and I wasn’t getting them back.”
