Local groups along the set to be re-opened Borders Railway are being encouraged to adopt the unmanned train stations along the line.

The line will run from Edinburgh to Tweedbank and have four Midlothian stations, at Shawfair, Eskbank, Newtongrange and Gorebridge.

Speaking at last week’s Gorebridge Community Council meeting, member Brian Patterson revealed that it is in talks with other groups about looking after the new station in Gorebridge as part of a ScotRail-led scheme.

He said: “ We are working with Gorebridge Environmental Group and the Gorebridge Community Development Trust on this. The Association of Community Rail Partnership (ACORP) want us to adopt a station.

“We have set-up a sub-committee which will look after the station. Then we can apply for grants for information boards, flower pots etc.”

To adopt a station call 07715082182 or email Annette@acorp.uk.com.
