A long-delayed proposed road closure at Sheriffhall roundabout took a step forward last week, despite objections from two local landowners.
Millerhill Road (A6106) will be closed to motorised vehicles between Sheriffhall roundabout and a point north of the Cockatoo roundabout.
Last week Midlothian Council agreed to the plans despite objections from the Cockatoo pub/restaurant and another landowner.
A new road linking Shawfair Park with the A6106 will be built to retain access to the city bypass.
This is to make way for the new Borders Railway line which will see the northern half of the road removed, while the southern section will be maintained for agricultural vehicles and as a pedestrian/ cycle path, with Network Rail linking it to a new roundabout just west of the Cockatoo roundabout.
All of the costs will be met by Network Rail, except an estimated £500 from the council for a prohibition of motorised vehicles order to be issued.
