Memorial funds set up to honour two local teenagers who died in separate tragic circumstances have come together to raise cash.
Mayfield 17-year-old Dale Bennett died in a knife attack in February 2011. Brandon Hall, from Newtongrange, was 19 when he lost his 20-month battle with cancer in February this year.
Now those behind their memorial funds are uniting to raise money for a bench in tribute to Brandon.
Cash will also go to local charities and causes close to them, such as knife crime awareness and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Brandon’s mum Kathryn Hall was delighted that her friend Sheryl Skelton, of the Dale Bennett Memorial Fund, wanted to combine their efforts. She told the Advertiser: “I thought it was really nice. Sheryl just thought it would be a good idea. “We are raising money for a bench in Brandon’s memory with a snow leopard on it. It will be at the cemetery, close to his headstone.
The bench is expected to cost around £2500, with £1500 already raised by collections at Summerfield in Newtongrange and the Royal Bank of Scotland in Dalkeith.
