Newtongrange is gearing up for this year’s Children’s Gala Day on Saturday, bringing an end to a week of fun-filled events in the village.
The big day will kick off when the parade leaves The Square in Newtongrange at 1pm to head to the main event in the village park, which runs from 12-5pm.
The crowning ceremony for this year’s King and Queen – Cameron Forrest and Paige Crombie – will take place at 1.45pm in the park.
Newtongrange Gala Day Committee chairperson Denise Gillies revealed some changes: “We have the fun fair coming from the Thursday this year – so more days for people to enjoy this in the park. The kids will be happy.
“We are trying out a few different things this year. I don’t want to reveal everything, as we want to keep some of it a surprise. We are trying out different events. Not just bigger ones. We’ll have lots of different stalls.
“We have Nerf games. It will be in an area blocked off. It’s safe foam bullets that they fire. The kids love it. It’s like paintballing for kids. And if it goes well we will run it throughout the summer in the park.
“Also new, we are holding a dog show on the Wednesday.
“The crowning is going to be different this year –but we will keep that a surprise just now. We want to utilise it more so people can see.
“We have not got any arena entertainment as it costs too much. We are just trying to fill as much stalls as possible. We will have face painting, bikes and much more.
“We are just trying to do things a bit differently.
“We are just hoping for good weather now.”
The gala day is sponsored by Neil Williams Hauglage, Chapter One hairdressing, The Dean Tavern, Newtongrange Dental Practice, The Sun Inn and Grange Cabs.
