Following years of campaigning and a fatal car crash villagers in Ford are delighted that the speed limit will soon be reduced from 40 to 30mph.
Councillors last week agreed to lower the speed limit through the village where a man died two years ago after coming off the road and hitting a house.
Tynewater Community Council has been pushing for the change for many years, it’s secretary Jenny Grahame revealed the mood in Ford.
She said: “The feeling in the village is that is has been a very long hard battle but they have at last achieved what they intended to achieve.
“They are delighted that having really plugged away at it for a very long time they now have what they wanted.
“It was basically village power. They all worked really hard with a tremendous will. That should be thoroughly acknowledged.
“I have been involved for nine years but I know the rest of the villagers have been at it longer than that.
“It’s a shame that it took a fatal car crash two years ago to help get to where we are now.”
